Zakeyah

ZakeyahZAKEYAH (a Kushite word meaning ..to teach’) born in the UK and raised by Jamaican parents. She studied media and music technology in London and is currently working as a mentor/youth worker, creatively combining these elements to empower young people: to give them confidence, raise their self-esteem and help them to achieve. Tapper Zukie, Muta Baruka, Mikey Dread, Sista Carol and Jah Shaka are her greatest inspiration. As for JAH Shaka, Zakeyah herself says, ..he played JAH music in a way no other Sound system can sound, he touched my soul and woke up my ancestors, so I felt my true Africanness from within. With JAH Shaka the Bible came to life at the dance!.. Being exposed to these influences inspired Zakeyah to begin writing her own lyrics. Her first release was a 12inch single entitled ..King Selassie I.. produced by Ruben Niney on Kristal Beach Records, a combination of Roots Ragga, singing.
